Who is responsible for your information

The Sleep Health Centre South Africa (“SHC”) is the responsible party under the Protection of Personal Information Act, 4 of 2013 (POPIA). SHC decides what is collected and why, and is accountable for keeping it safe.

What we collect

When you enrol we collect your name, email address and phone number. Your onboarding questionnaire asks about your sleep, daily rhythm and certain health conditions so the programme can be personalised and made safe for you. During the 21 days we record which day cards you open, the daily behaviours you log, and your short pulse check-ins.

Health information is special personal information

Some questionnaire answers are health information, which POPIA treats as special personal information. We process it only with your consent, given when you complete the questionnaire, and only for the purposes below. These answers are encrypted in our database and are visible only to the Sleep Health Centre clinical team.

Why we use it

We use your information to run the programme: to personalise your daily card and habit checklist, to route you to the version of the programme that is safe for you, to let our clinical team reach out if your answers or your progress suggest you may need more support, and to administer your enrolment. We do not sell your information and we do not use it for advertising.

How long we keep it

We keep your programme record for as long as you are enrolled, and afterwards only as long as is needed for clinical follow-up and our legal obligations. If you leave the programme, your account is closed and no further information is collected.

Your rights

You may ask us at any time what we hold about you, ask for corrections, or object to processing. You can leave the programme from your account page. You may also complain to the Information Regulator (South Africa) at inforegulator.org.za.

Your consent

By completing the onboarding questionnaire you consented to the following, in plain language:

Personalisation. Your answers are used to set your recommended sleep window, caffeine cut-off and daily habit checklist, and to choose the programme track that is appropriate for you.

Health screening. Your answers may raise a flag that something is worth assessing properly. The programme itself works on behaviour and does not diagnose. But it is run by the Sleep Health Centre, a sleep medicine practice, and if a flag is raised our doctors can assess, diagnose and treat what they find. A member of the clinical team may contact you.

Safety-first content. Certain techniques are automatically excluded for some participants based on their answers. This is a clinical safety measure and cannot be switched off.

Withdrawal. You can withdraw this consent by leaving the programme at any time from your account page. Withdrawal stops all further collection and contact.

The programme is wellbeing. The team behind it is medical. The Challenge works on behaviour and doesn’t diagnose on its own. It’s run by the Sleep Health Centre, a sleep medicine practice: if your answers or your progress point to an underlying sleep disorder, our doctors can assess, diagnose and treat it. If you feel unwell or unsafe, contact your doctor or emergency services.
